8th kyu (orange belt) Exam

General points the examiner looks for:

  1. Basic understanding of hand & feet timing (all end at the same time).
  2. Begin to understand the differences in the stances.
  3. Correct body movements.
  4. Correct posture without losing center point.
  5. Demonstrates simple blocking, striking, and kicking techniques.
  6. Keeps eye contact.
  7. Keeps eyes level.
  8. Shows a willingness to try with spirit!

Kata:

Heian Shodan (Peaceful Mind #1)

Kihon:

(Examiner will count 1-2-3, kiai on 3rd technique)

  1. Stepping in, lunge punch, stomach level.
  2. Stepping back, rising block.
  3. Stepping in, outside block.
  4. Stepping back, inside block.
  5. Stepping in, knife hand block
  6. Yame (stop), return to starting position.
  7. Stepping in, front kick, stomach level. Turn and repeat.
  8. Stepping back, round kick, any level. Turn and repeat.
  9. Stepping across, side snap kick, any level. Turn and repeat.
  10. Stepping across, side thrust kick, any level. Turn and repeat.

Kumite (3 step):

(Examiner will count 1-2-3, kiai on 3rd technique)

  1. Attacker: Stepping in, lunge punch, face level; Defender: Stepping back, Rising block, reverse punch on 3rd technique.
  2. Attacker: Stepping in, lunge punch, stomach level; Defender: Stepping back, outside block, reverse punch on 3rd technique.
