General points the examiner looks for:

  1. Correct distance and timing.
  2. Development of speed and timing.
  3. Fluid and effective delivery of counter-attacks.
  4. Kicking techniques become more technically correct.
  5. More fluid driving motion resulting in more power.
  6. Technically correct body form and body position.

Kata:

Heian Yondan (Peaceful Mind #4)

Kihon:

Each series of 3 should be executed without stopping between techniques.

  1. Stepping in, 3 lunge punches; face, stomach, face.
  2. Stepping back, rising block, reverse punch.
  3. Stepping in, outside block, reverse punch.
  4. Stepping back, inside block, reverse punch.
  5. Stepping in, knife hand block, front-leg front kick, reverse punch.
  6. Yame (stop), return to starting position.
  7. Stepping in, two back leg front kicks, stomach, then face. Turn and repeat.
  8. Stepping in, two back leg round kicks, any level. Turn and repeat.
  9. Stepping across, back thrust kick, any level. Turn and repeat.
  10. Stepping across, side snap kick, any level. Turn and repeat.
  11. Stepping across, side thrust kick, any level. Turn and repeat.
  12. Stepping in, back leg front kick, reverse punch.
  13. Stepping in, front leg front kick, back leg round kick.
  14. Stepping across, side snap kick, reverse punch.

Kumite (1 step):

Attacker executes each technique once, switching sides between techniques (first left leg leads, then right leg leads).

  1. Attacker: Stepping in, lunge punch, face level; Defender: Block and counter, any technique.
  2. Attacker: Stepping in, lunge punch, stomach level; Defender: Block and counter, any technique.
  3. Attacker: Stepping in, back leg front kick, stomach level; Defender: Block and counter, any technique.
